Strong winds that sent wildfires ripping through the mountains and foothills around Los Angeles on Tuesday fed a spectacle of smoke, flames, and flight. The fast-moving Palisades Fire ravaged the Pacific Palisades neighborhood, igniting large flames and sending residents fleeing in fear.

Firefighters worked tirelessly to combat the wildfires that had flared up in brush dried out by persistent drought. As vivid orange flames illuminated the sky, efforts to protect structures from the advancing flames intensified. Helicopters dropped water over hotspots while firefighters struggled to keep the fires at bay.
